Dear Editor,
So Brussels wants to give Poland a severe reprimand because the Polish government is reducing democratic control of the judiciary.
Well I can't judge how bad or how serious that is but the EU's holier-than-thou attitude immediately started my "double-standards-alarm" ringing: Yes, only a few months ago, EU-authorities were hell-bent on pushing through various, secretive, free-trade deals (e.g. TTIP and CETA) with these deals involving passing democratic power over to courts of arbitration which would stand above and beyond any democratically controlled jurisdiction.
For me this is definitely a case of an extremely sooty EU pot calling the Polish kettle black.
