So the UK needs "mega-farms" to keep food prices down?
I thought supermarkets were recently rapped over the knuckles for their "B.O.G.O.F" (buy one get one free) offers and the waste that that creates? With half the world short of food while the west piles up over-sized shopping carts with "stuff" that will mostly be thrown away, surely the way to go should be to increase food prices ... not introduce "mega-farms" so that animals can be kept in cruel conditions and we can get cheap meat and can end up with "life-style diseases" (heart-disease, obesity, diabetes, etc.) even more quickly.
On top of this rain-forest will be cut down and chemicals sprayed in developing countries so that feed for these animals can be produced. This destroys habitat, creates "soil-exhaustion" and dead-zones in the oceans (from run-off) and accelerates global warming. Then, next, these animals will be pumped full of antibiotics which will then find their way into humans with drug-resistance becoming rampant.
All in all this is a very bad idea and I simply can't grasp why it is even being considered.
