Dear Editor,
I read Dr. James Verdon's (University of Bristol) statement in your letters section in The Independent of 12th May (a statement supported by IPCC findings) that natural gas is "low carbon" and therefore could be a "bridging fuel" as we wean ourselves off other, more carbon intensive, fuels.
However, fracking produces methane (causing a "greenhouse effect" many times that of CO2) with levels of emission/leakage so high and unexpected that even experts are astonished. Below is a link to an article in The Washington Post.
Maybe The Independent can investigate and report on this aspect of fracking?
