Dear Editor,
So President Macron wants to "piss off the unvaccinated" (Article by Jon Henley, The Guardian, 4th Jan 2022, link below) and states that “When my freedoms threaten those of others, I become someone irresponsible. Someone irresponsible is not a citizen.”
This assertion is basically correct but is, in current circumstances, a moral minefield and will, in the tone that it is presented, massively increase the rage of the unvaccinated.
But let's put that debate aside for a moment and consider "responsibility": What about our, the public's, actions regarding climate change? Do we not insist on keeping our "creature comforts"... such as big cars, cheap flights, air-conditioned shopping and endless consumerist-indulgence?
I find it massively contradictory that we are so easily able to crank up the measures to combat Covid but repeatedly tip-toe around the issue of climate-change ... even though the planet is reaching a number of very frightening tipping-points.
Maybe Leonardo di Caprio should add an extra scene to his movie where people are busy squabbling about who can and who can't enter restaurants and cinemas ... while the asteroid hurtles towards earth!
God help us!
