### Reader’s Letter to The Guardian, 19th November 2024 ###
Dear Editor,
I read Simon Tisdall’s piece on Joe Biden’s “Last-gasp Missile Decision” (The Guardian, 18th November 2024, link below) with a very heavy heart …
We all know that in two months Donald Trump will be in the white house and will (apparently) be entering into negotiations with Putin. And we know that the war cannot be won in the two months which Joe Biden has left.
Here we urgently need to ask ourselves where this “last-gasp” will take us? I see two alternatives with either the war going through two months of completely avoidable carnage (on both sides!) or, even worse, this move triggering world-war-three.
So, what is the point of falling into line with Biden’s dubiously spectacular “legacy project”? And where is the common sense of our leaders who should know that this is a completely futile and VERY dangerous exercise.
Yours,
Alan Mitcham
